SENIOR ENGINEERING PSYCHOLOGIST (GS-14), (11/2011 to Present)

Serves as a senior authority on usability, design and engineering psychology matters; works closely with business stakeholders, end-users, business analysts, visual/graphic designers, software developers, project managers, procurement specialists etc. to perform work that involves applying Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) principles and practices to all phases of the website and software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities include:
- Planning and conducting qualitative and quantitative research using psychological research techniques to determine stakeholder and end-user needs, preferences and behaviors.
- Providing engineering psychology expertise to the business and technical teams for reviewing, analyzing, elaborating, and prioritizing requirements.
- Developing and championing the user experience vision, goals and strategy.
- Using appropriate design methodologies (e.g. user centered design) to design and develop low and high fidelity wireframes and prototypes of websites and software applications.
- Conducting expert reviews from an engineering psychology perspective as needed.
- Conducting remote and onsite usability testing at various points in the design process.
- Ensuring usability goals and metrics are met.
- Collaborating with the rest of the user experience group to expand, evolve and update techniques, work products and deliverables to reflect latest trends and best practices.
- Ensuring software and systems quality and functionality with respect to usability requirements.
- Providing advisory/consulting services that relate to engineering psychology considerations in such matters as the feasibility of proposed projects.

• Conducts research into innovative trends or techniques for incorporating usability principles into system design, performing usability studies, and adapting interfaces to modern technologies such as mobile devices or assistive hardware/software.
• Develops agency standards and practices for usable design and testing procedures, and provides expert guidance in their application.
• Determines scope, methods, resource requirements, schedules, and supporting analysis associated with usability components of website and application development.
• Prepares technical specifications, statements of work, task orders, and other acquisition related documentation necessary to effectively obtain and administer contractor-supported information system projects and operations; provides government oversight of contractor activities and quality of deliverables, on multiple, parallel, mostly medium- or large-sized or impact projects.
• Provides the engineering psychology perspective on problems encountered in human-computer interaction planning or execution activities.
• Serves as a mentor to junior user experience leads.

Served as technical authority and performs work that involves the design, documentation, development, modification, testing and implementation of new and existing IT products and services for version 5 of the Biometrics Automated Toolset and its user interface.

- Provided technical expertise and leadership for the application of Human-Computer Interface (HCI) principles.
- Served as user advocate and owner of the user interface working closely with software developers, system analysts, Web technology specialists, graphic designers, U.S. Army customers, and in-house procurement specialists.
- Produces storyboards and wireframes for twenty-five product features and enhancements to the BAT 5 user interface and system design, including computer graphics.
- Conducted User-Centered Design activities such as heuristic evaluations, functional analysis, usability testing, qualitative and quantitative research and analysis.
- Developed processes for the inclusion of User Experience into the Agile Process for coordinating functional requirements, and the development, assignment, and implementation of Capabilities Analysis Documents (CADs), and user interface design documents to optimize the assignment and delivery of programming assignments for software developers.
